Quotable!

This weekend I was FINALLY able to get my hands on the new fall/winter issue of Flea Market Style. And as always, it's chocked full of FABULOUS projects, ideas, homes, pictures, and articles. During the making of this issue back in the spring, the FMS staff asked readers to submit their favorite antiques malls. So, after describing The Corner Nest (my favorite mall) and all its greatness I clicked submit with crossed-fingers and hope for the best.
Fast-forward five months.... I'm sitting in my boyfriend's living room perusing the pages of my new buy. I'm savoring each and every image and word...slowly...turning...the...pages. I finally come to a page titled, "Flea Market Style's Antiques Malls Reader Submitted." I'm holding my breath as I scan the page for the state in which it is located. Nothing. Nada. Zip. "Oh well!" I think to myself and keep reading.
Fast-forward twenty minutes.... I come to page 130, the second portion of the list of favorite antiques malls. My heart starts racing. I scan. I look. I read. And there it is...Corner Nest Antiques Mall and its location, phone number, and facebook page. I was ECSTATIC, THRILLED, FREAKING-OUT! Then I think to myself, "I wish a small snippet describing the mall would have been put in." (Some had this description below them). Then, at the exact time I had that thought I glance to the top of the right corner and see MY NAME below MY QUOTE! The FMS staff picked MY favorite mall and chose to add what I had to say about it! I jumped up and yelled "OMG! This has made my life! It's now complete!"
I have been quoted  in my absolute. Favorite. Magazine. Of. All. Time.
Talk about a great "interesting fact about yourself" to share at the next get-to-know-you-function :)

PLUM Cute!!!

A few weeks back my mom realized our small plum tree had produced quite a bountiful harvest considering its size. She just planted it last summer, so we didn't expect to have fruit this year. Boy were those flimsy little branches saggin'! We all enjoyed the plums, but not as much as our two cocker spaniels, Toby & Roxy, who thought they had died and gone to heaven! Fortunately for our neighbors we were leaving for vacation soon after mom's pleasant discovery. So we thought we do the neighborly thing and share part of summer's bounty. With the grab of a thrift store basket, an old stained (but clean!) doily, and the toss of a few plums we concocted a simply delicious treat for the folks around our home. Maybe next summer we'll make a cobbler to share!! Know any other yummy ideas for plums?

She Sells Seashells By the Seashore!

So, my family and I just got back from a week of vacation at the beach. One of my most favorite things to do while there is comb the sand for unique shells and beach glass. I always want to bring friends and family members something back home, but I hate cheesy souvenirs. (Who really likes personalized plastic key chains and coffee mugs anyway??) So this time I decided to collect and "can" a bit of the beach for my loved ones. A scoop of sand, a handful of neat-o shells and rocks, a cute glass jar ($1 at the Dollar Tree!), and a cute tag make this simple yet unique (and affordable) souvenir. Who wouldn't wanna gander at this bit o' the beach and day dream???

The Greatest Birthday Gift...

What better birthday gift than "an all expenses paid trip to the flea market"? Thanks to the handsom gentleman who I call my boyfriend, I came home with some REALLY good stuff yesterday. I bought a few a things, but most of it was picked out by me...and purchased by him! I think I have a good catch who I'm not letting go :) Take a looksy at all this good ol' junk!

The top of the really awesome green cabinet is an old shoe stretcher ($2), a cool skinny narrow metal blue tool box that's chipped up just perfectly ($2 also), an old metal condiments carrousel for $1, which I can't wait to bake up some cute little mini cupcakes to serve in it (this idea came from the first issue of Flea Market Style Magazine), and two jars. The smaller one was just $1, but I got the bigger one and the flour sifter on the second shelf for $5 (thanks to the magic trick of "bundling"!). That's a splurge for me, but I wasn't footing the bill and it's shaped really cool.
On the first shelf are two bea-u-tiful pieces of ironstone. The hard work of some great cook is quite evident with all the browning and crackling of the platter. I don't know why, but they're something so elegant about a curvy white gravy boat. Both pieces were $2.
I spotted the blue Mason jar because it was a great deal at $2. The apron hanging on the door is one of the cutest I've seen. It's not clear in the pic, but it wears a great blue, green, and white floral design with gold trim and buttons. The best part? Fifty cents! Last but not least, proping the door open is a HEAVY oval shaped iron flower frog. It's just waiting to become an unsuspecting soap dish :)
I truly hope you enjoyed looking at my finds as much as I enjoyed finding them!
Until next time...happy junkin'!

Friday Night at an Auction House + A Best Friend = A FABULOUS Time!

Last Friday night my best friend and I ventured out to spend the evening at a local auction. We were a bit apprehensive in the beginning, but after the first win, it was quite addictive! As you can see above, I didn't bring back lots of things, but they're all really neat. Best of all...I only paid $22 for all of it! The guys there had a plethora of great rusty things. It was SO hard not to throw my number up for every other item that was up for bid. I wish I had a better picture of the quilt top, because this does NOT do it justice. It has lots of really small squares and patches, and was only $2! Towards the end of the auction, I won the two flower frogs and jar as a lot for also only $2! I paid $15 for the stool, which was higher than I had planned to go, but I loved the green color and had gotten such a deal on everything else, I couldn't resist! My friend got a great wooden ironing board (for only 10 buckaroos) that she plans to use a sofa table behind her couch. Good junk, good prices, and good fried food...I'll def be back for more

First of all, welcome and thank you for stopping by! I'm quite new at this blogging thing, but I'm very excited to get started. I can't wait to share my finds and adventures with others who feel the same rush of adrenaline when they find that cracked, rusty, and beautiful piece of JUNK that I do!

Until next time, happy junking :)
